In Memory of Sara Hudson

In Memory of Sara Hudson

Sara Hudson was one of those great anglers who didn’t boast about her skill level. She was an accomplished angler who just loved to fly fish. She was kind, beautiful, and supportive. At DUN, we appreciated her sunny disposition and her desire to work with us to improve and grow the female angling community.  We are heartbroken that we didn’t get that chance.

Sara’s life was sadly cut short on Monday, August 19th, her 22nd birthday, in what appears to be a random act of violence.

She was a recent graduate of the University of Arkansas with a B.A. in Business Marketing. She went to work for Schneider Transportation in Dallas and quickly was recognized as an outstanding employee.  She landed her first customer, TFO’s trade show business and recognized their business was not getting the service they deserved.  In his own words, her uncle, Frank-Paul King of TFO, said, “When she discovered that we were getting totally screwed, she reached out to every fishing brand she used and a few of our competitors! She told them what she had learned and wanted to help them. Simms, Umpqua, and a long list of others were quickly becoming new friends and potential clients – people she could help.”

And that’s just the kind of person Sara was. If she could help you, she would. She will be sadly missed, and our hearts go out to her family and friends. It is our hope that her beautiful spirit of kindness lives on through the angling community that she loved.

The Simms Guide Classic Wader and Jacket

The Simms Guide Classic Wader and Jacket

I’m a bit of a gear junkie. I love good gear and I love good technology. I can also tend to be a brand snob. When I got into fly fishing back in the day, I wore Simms boy’s waders, casted a Sage 9’ 5-wt Light Line and

Survival of the Fittest - Or Most Prepared

Survival of the Fittest - Or Most Prepared

This is the current view from my office window…in Tennessee.  I moved here from Chicago four years ago because I wanted to be somewhere warm, without that white stuff, and without the single-digit temperatures. To say I feel like I was sold a bill of goods this morning when
